About

Liberty Christian School

WELCOME

Dear Prospective Parent,

It is with great excitement that I write you this letter to introduce myself as the new Head of School at Liberty Christian School. I am thrilled to be joining the team at Liberty Christian and to have the opportunity to work alongside the excellent faculty and staff.

I am honored to have been called to serve as the Head of School and to lead this vibrant community of students, families, faculty, and staff. I have been an educator for over 20 years with experience in the classroom and leadership roles at several independent schools. I earned my bachelor’s degree and teaching credentials from Towson University and received my master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Diversity from the University of Hawaii. I have sensed God calling me to Christian education specifically, and feel blessed to have this opportunity. It is a distinct privilege to marry my faith and my profession and serve as an educator with a Christian worldview.

At Liberty Christian School, we are driven to create opportunities for students to grow in their knowledge of God’s Word and understanding of their relationship with Jesus Christ while being challenged academically. We have developed a curriculum that integrates Christian values and Biblical principles into every aspect of our program. This helps our students be grounded in God’s word, and demonstrate their uniqueness in his plan.

Liberty Christian School’s mission is to partner with Christian families to provide our children with a quality Christ-centered education. As the Head of School, I am dedicated to collaboration and open communication where families, students, faculty and staff are actively involved in the education and spiritual development of our children. I hope we are able to work together to instill our motto “Faith. Learning. For Life.” and raise Christ-centered students who are equipped to impact the world.

I am eager to introduce you to the Liberty Christian family. As its newest member, I trust that you will see it as I do: a wonderful community full of life, laughter, the love of God, and a strong sense of doing what is right for our children. Please contact us so that we can make the introductions!

In Christ,

Eric W. Cole
Head of School

Mission Statement

Partnering with Christian families to provide our children with a quality Christ-centered education

Vision

It is our vision to prepare our graduates both spiritually and academically to impact the world for Christ.

Core Values

  • We are Grounded in the Word of God – Each subject is taught in the totality of its truth. If the Creator is ignored or denied, it is incomplete. Christ is the key to education.
  • We take a Developmental Approach – Recognizing that God grows us through critical stages physically, emotionally, intellectually, relationally and spiritually, we strive to meet each child’s needs accordingly.
  • We are Diverse and Welcoming – God has physically placed Liberty Christian at a crossroads of cultures, languages, ethnic and racial groups. We recognize our unity in Christ even as we celebrate the diversity of His people.
  • We know that Each Student is Unique – We seek to be living examples of God’s love to each child and to demonstrate their uniqueness in His plan.
  • We encourage Parental Involvement – Our faculty and staff work to support parents in their God-given role of raising children to honor Him.

Faculty & Staff

The faculty, staff and administrators, together with the families, make Liberty Christian School such a special place.

HISTORY

Christ-Centered Education for Over 40 Years

Liberty Christian School (LCS) was founded by Liberty Church, PCA, in September of 1980, turning a long-time vision church leaders and members had for a Christian school into a reality. The church provided significant financial support and guidance for the new school that was originally housed in the lower level of the church facility.

The school’s first student body consisted of 30 pupils in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten and met in the lower level of the church. The school’s first administrator also taught kindergarten. The next year, LCS grew to include a first grade class, housed in the block building beside the church. It quickly became apparent that the school needed more space, so modular units were purchased from Franklin Square Hospital and set on the newly prepared foundation. The hard working members of the church put in long hours every weekend to accomplish the task of expanding the school building.

The school officially moved from the church building to its own separate quarters in 1982. As the school continued to grow, two wings were added over the years, housing new classrooms, a media center, a gym, a fully furnished science lab, and a computer lab. The school’s most recent construction project, a kindergarten area renovation designed to support the learning goals of Liberty Christian’s K4/K5 program, was introduced at the start of the 2012-13 school year and completed in 2014. In 2020, LCS celebrated 40 years of offering a Christ-centered education to students in the community.

Liberty Church continues to support the school financially through the tithes of its members and the rent-free use of the school building. To see more about Liberty Church PCA, visit their website at libertychurchpca.org.

CAMPUS

A Great Place to Learn

Liberty Christian School is located on 35 acres in Owings Mills, Maryland, a suburban area on the border of Baltimore and Carroll counties. Students commute from several local counties as well as Baltimore City. The school building consists of a complex of 40,000 square feet. The building houses classrooms for each lower school grade, a separate wing for our middle school grades, a lower level kindergarten suite, a media center, a gymnasium and locker rooms, a computer lab, and a science lab, as well as art, music, Spanish, robotics, and tutoring classrooms.

The school makes good use of its wooded property. Next to the soccer field, parents built a large, modern playground for the lower school students. There is also an outdoor amphitheater with a stage area and benches, as well as hiking trails and a clearing used for various school activities.

In addition, the school includes a fully-operational kitchen serving hot meals every school day, administrative offices for school staff, a teachers’ lounge and a nurse’s suite. The school is also blessed to have the use of the church building and sanctuary, where larger school gatherings such as chapels and assemblies are held.

GOVERNANCE

School Board

A School Board whose members are approved by the Session of Liberty Church, PCA governs Liberty Christian School.

The Board is comprised of appointed members, many of whom are current or former parents of Liberty Christian School students. While some of these individuals may be parents of students, it is important to note that Liberty Christian School is not parent run. Other members include former teachers, local business owners, and other professionals all deeply devoted to LCS providing an excellent academic, God-focused education. The Board sets policy for the school, monitors the performance, and also sets the long-range goals for the school.

Head of School

The Head of School is hired to oversee the day-to-day school operations, including supervision of all faculty and staff, as well as executing the strategic plan and goals of the school. The Head of School reports directly to the School Board.

Church Affiliation

Liberty Christian School is a ministry of Liberty Church, PCA, and is under the direct supervision of the Church Session, a School Board approved by the Session, and a Head of School/Administrator. It is important to note that despite our close affiliation with Liberty Church, LCS families come from nearly 90 different churches in the Baltimore community, and represent a broad range of denominations and church cultures. Liberty Christian School exists to support parents, and subsequently churches, in their endeavor to grow children in the knowledge and love of God. As such, LCS students are not required, nor are they encouraged, to change their church affiliation. In fact, LCS celebrates the diversity of our student body.

The purpose of Christian education is to encourage students to glorify God in all areas of their lives. Though the outward appearance is not as important as the condition of the child’s heart, it is a reflection of how one views himself/herself and demonstrates their self-discipline to adhere to the rules. The student’s dress is a personal and parental responsibility. It is imperative that the established dress code of the school be accepted and enforced consistently by the parents. We expect that all clothing will be neat, clean and in good repair. Students dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to attend class and parents will be called immediately.
